1996 Protoform P2 Formula Vee

This 1996 Protoform P2 Formula Vee represents an earlier example of the P2 design, combining the simplicity and Volkswagen-based fundamentals of Formula Vee with a purpose-built chassis designed for competitive racing. The P2 developed a reputation as a capable and well-balanced Formula Vee, with a design that has remained competitive long after its introduction.

Like many Formula Vees that have spent their lives in club racing, the complete early competition history of this particular chassis is still being pieced together. What remains is a race car built for a class where momentum, consistency, and driver skill matter far more than outright horsepower.

Today, the 1996 P2 remains part of the Jag Off Racing Formula Vee collection and continues to represent what makes the class so appealing: simple mechanicals, close competition, and a race car that rewards smooth, efficient driving. Nearly three decades after it was built, the P2 is still exactly what it was intended to be — a straightforward Formula Vee meant to be raced. This 2000 Protoform P2 Formula Vee represents the later evolution of the class, combining traditional Formula Vee fundamentals with a more refined chassis and body design. Known for its balanced handling and predictable behavior, the P2 has become a popular platform for competitive racing and driver development.

Specific early competition history for this chassis is limited, but the car was acquired from John H. Deonarine Jr., a long-time Formula Vee participant, and presented as a complete and functional race car rather than a project. Its condition and preparation reflect a car that has been used and maintained for competition, not display.

Today, the P2 remains actively raced in the Driverz Cup Series, valued for its straightforward setup, consistent performance, and ability to reward clean, efficient driving. It stands as a solid example of a modern-era Formula Vee — built to be raced, maintained, and enjoyed without unnecessary complication.
