1967 Autodynamics Mk V Formula Vee

This 1967 Autodynamics Mk V Formula Vee carries a documented history rooted in long-standing racing relationships. The car was owned by Ed Lowther, a respected SCCA competitor and former semi-professional driver for Carroll Shelby, though Ed himself did not race this car.

Instead, the Mk V was maintained and campaigned by Jim Locke, Ed’s mechanic, who drove the car during driver’s school and competition at Summit Point Raceway. The original VRG logbook documents Jim’s involvement behind the wheel, firmly establishing the car’s active racing history.

Ed Lowther was also a neighbor to Jeff Tapolci (current owner), and Jeff spent many days during high school in Ed’s shop, surrounded by racing conversations, parts, and projects. At the time, Jeff had no knowledge that Ed owned this particular car. That connection only came to light years later, when Jeff purchased the Mk V in 2021, closing an unexpected loop between past influence and present ownership.

During the early 1980s, the car competed in distinctive 84 Lumber livery, a look that has since been recreated with approval from the sponsor. Today, the Mk V remains an actively raced Formula Vee and a tangible link between mentorship, mechanics, and generations of racing involvement.
